My son is in the 90th percentile for height and weight, and had outgrown his infant-carrier car seat around 4 months of age. We've been using the Boulevard since then (he is now 16 months old). I purchased it especially because it can accommodate children up to a higher weight limit with the 5-point harness. It is large and pretty heavy if you need to move it from vehicle to vehicle; I wouldn't recommend it for really small cars. However, it's appropriate for a "good-sized" kid, and I always feel that my child is well-protected in it.

I did have to turn this around from rear-facing to forward-facing before my child reached one year old, simply because he was too heavy for me to continue lifting in and out in the rear-facing position. He was already over 20 pounds at that point.

We had no trouble figuring out how to use the 5-point harness, or how to put this in our car using a seatbelt. However, I had to take it to the police station to figure out how to install it in a vehicle that supports the LATCH system. (I'd never seen the LATCH thing before; if you're familiar with it, it might not be a problem.) I can never get the seat installed as tightly with a seatbelt as with the LATCH connectors, but that would probably be a problem with any car seat.

I have taken the cover off and washed it once; it washed fine, but it took me about 15-20 minutes to get it back on. My toddler won't leave the "hug" pads on the straps, so I had to take them off. However, he seems perfectly secure without them.

My child always seems comfortable in the car seat -- he definitely has "chunky" thighs, but we have not experienced any problem with the straps cutting into them. The seat is high up (in forward facing mode) so he can see everything.

We've used this car seat constantly, and moved it from vehicle to vehicle quite a few times -- but it is not showing any signs of wear. When our second child needs this car seat, we plan to move our older one up to a Britax Frontier booster. I would definitely recommend this car seat.


I have twins and, after doing extensive online research, ended up purchasing both the Britax Boulevard and the Britax Marathon Convertible Car Seat Cowmooflage. I feel like they are both exceptionally safe seats - since we've not had an accident, I can't comment on their performance, but can offer my thoughts on the pros and cons.

1) Easy Installation. The Boulevard is extremely easy to install, especially if you use the latches. There are a ton of resources for ensuring that you have installed the seat correctly - I would encourage every parent to watch an online video, or take the seat by the police or fire station for inspection, just to be sure!
2) Very stable. Once properly installed, the seat doesn't move. This was a pleasant difference from our Graco Infant SafeSeat Step 1 - Gianni, which seemed to jostle side to side a little no matter how tight we pulled the straps.
3) Very comfortable for the kids. The material for the Onyx is soft, and there is a lot of cushioning around the head, waist, and the buckle connector.

Some slight downside considerations:
1) The seat is very large. If you are intending to use it rear-facing, you may have to move the driver/passenger seat W-A-Y forward, which can be a real drag. The seat does not cause the same issue once it is front facing. The Marathon doesn't take up quite as much room when rear-facing, and might be a better choice if you have a smaller vehicle.
2) The strap adjuster button is not as user-friendly as the Marathon. I find it a bit difficult, actually, to maneuver under the seat cover to raise the latch and adjust the belt length with a child in the seat.
3) The extended cushioning around the child's hips makes putting the child into the seat a little more difficult - the pillow kind of slips around and I find I have to slightly rearrange it almost every time I put the child into the seat.

None of the downsides are really big negatives - just inconveniences to be aware of. If I had to do it again, I would probably still purchase one each of the Marathon and the Boulevard. I think the real difference will be apparent once the kids are older toddlers and testing the height/weight limits of the two seats.


I purchased two of these seats for my twins. The seat is fantastic for use with infants, but when my twins hit 16 months of age, they figured out that they could easily reach the release button for the restraint harness, and basically get out of the seat by holding the button and leaning forward which opened the belts. It was heart stopping to see that they were not safe when I reached my destination, something that happened several times. I had to purchase another brand of seat to keep them safe and secure. It was a very expensive seat given this safety issue and I do not recommend it for use when a baby rides forward facing.


I'm sorry, this might be a great seat for toddlers, but it just isn't a good fit for newborns. My 6 lb baby did fit in it but she certainly wasn't comfortable. The straps are way too wide, too rough on her skin, and too far apart. We ended up having to purchase one of those infant car seats, which is not only better suited for our baby but also much more convenient for us parents. I'm sure we'll still use the Britax, just not now.


After hours of online research, we decided to go with the Britax Boulevard once my daughter outgrew her Graco Snugride (which we also liked). This seat is exceptionally large, so I do not see it fitting in a sports car. I was impressed with the true side impact protection wings, which is what eventually persuaded me to buy this, especially for when we move her from the middle position when another baby comes along. She does have to lean forward to look out the side windows, but has a great view out of the back. They also make a comfy pillow when sleeping. The fabric is very soft and I like the neutral colors. The headrest/strap height adjustment is very easy. I love the tether, it is the only brand to offer a rear-facing tether, you just have to spend a little extra time figuring it out. (I took it to a local specialist in installing car seats.) All of these things make it probably the safest on the market. It is rear-facing to 35 pounds, and forward-facing to 65, so we should get a lot of mileage out of it!

Complaints: The buckle leans towards the back of the seat and you do have to fish it out from under them each time they get in. I find the harness adjuster strap quite difficult to tighten. You cannot tighten it in one smooth motion as you can with the snugride. You have to jerk it out in several repeated motions. Besides this I am very happy with it. We bought it on sale and with a $200 gift card, otherwise I would have been hard-pressed to spend this much on it.


After reading all the reviews on this seat - i almost didn't buy it. We bought the boulevard in particular because it has the side impact safety and she leans her head up against the wings to sleep - much better than most car seats where their head flops forward. . . that just can't be comfortable.

The strap to click into is a bit short and a bit of a pain and that is why i rated 4 not 5 stars. . . My son rides in a Recaro and that would get 5 stars from me as it is easier to get him in and out of (and has been since we got it). I would have bought another Recaro for her but they don't have the pretty designs and this one is rated as well as the Recaro and has the pretty girlie designs. . .

Great seat and very pretty - my daughter seems comfortable - but really doesn't like to be strapped into anything so she does whine when we initially strap her in. she is fine shortly thereafter and i have never seen any marks from the straps. we have been using the seat for 5 months now.

You really can't buy a better seat than Recaro or Britax.


When my husband and I purchased a smaller vehicle, part of the deal was that I would be able to buy the best car seat on the market for our son. After much research, the Britax Boulevard always was the top recommendation. However, the crotch belt strap is extremely short and is NOT adjustable. Had I known this before, I would not have purchased this seat. There are several other seats by Britax with the adjustable strap (I believe the marathon has one, except it only holds up to 40 lbs in comparison to the Boulevard which holds 65). I can't imagine how my son will fit in this seat when he weighs more (He only weighs 20 lbs now and it's tight!)

I purchased this seat about a month ago, and I'm very pleased with it. You can really see the quality in the structure and the way it was designed. We use this seat foward facing, which is very easy to install and fits real tight against the back seat. Some people complain that the seat is too big, but I have 98 Altima and it fits just fine. When it comes to saftey you shouldn't skimp. We tried to install the seat rear facing, but we didn't feel comfortable with that position...there was too much play from side to side. No matter how much we tried, we just couldn't get a tight secure fit with the rear facing position. My son loves the seat too...it real comfy!


it is a bit difficult to get the baby into the carseat in the rear facing position. the wings on the sides make it very safe and comfortable for the baby. but also hard to get him in and out. not too much of a problem. but something to consider. i may have been happier with the britax seat that is rated up to 65 lbs without the wings.


I did a TON of research when looking into getting our first car seat. I first purchased a Britax Boulevard (Park Avenue) for my son back in 2006. We have loved it ever since and with the birth of our daughter in July of this year, we also purchased her a Britax Boulevard (Shannon).

Yes, the buckle in the crotch can be annoying since it doesn't stay lifted when placing your child in the seat, but I love the fact that it is located so low on the child. This allows the seat belt to be crossing the child's upper legs instead of their belly - and in a crash, that is very important. All the belts are easy to adjust. The car seat itself is easy to install in the car (we first had a surbaru forester and now have a honda odyssey). The side impact protection (wings) are great and our child has never had a problem seeing past them. In fact, they are quite handy when the child falls asleep (nice resting spot for the head).

Last week we were hit by an oncoming car. It was so scary and frightening - especially since I had my 2 year old and 8 week old in the car with me. I was so glad I had purchased our Britax Boulevards. The car was not drivable after the crash and I couldn't even open my driver door. I got whiplash, but the kids seem to be ok. We're going to the chiropractor again this week to make sure they are still doing ok.

These car seats are truly the best and last a very long time. I highly recommend them.
